Basil Kahwash is a board-certified allergist/immunologist who grew up in central Ohio and is excited to be returning to serve his hometown. Dr. Kahwash received an undergraduate degree in molecular biology from Kenyon College and his medical degree from the University of Toledo, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He then completed residency in internal medicine at Indiana University in Indianapolis, followed by fellowship in allergy/immunology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine/Nationwide Children’s Hospital. At the end of his medical training, he joined Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee as an assistant professor. During his tenure at Vanderbilt, Dr. Kahwash made significant contributions to teaching, clinical research, and quality improvement, in addition to practicing medicine. He also expanded his healthcare management skills by earning a master’s degree from Vanderbilt’s Owen School of Business.
Dr. Kahwash is an active member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), where he currently serves as chair of the sports, exercise, and fitness committee and on the council of the AAAAI Foundation. He also holds membership in the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and the American Contact Dermatitis Society (ACDS). In his spare time, he enjoys reading, photography, and being physically active, whether at a gym, on a pickleball court, or exploring a trail on another continent.
