For patients with symptoms of runny nose, nasal congestion, postnasal drip, and cough who may have tested negative for allergies and failed other treatments, a new office treatment may offer significant improvement in symptoms. Millions of Americans suffer from nonallergic rhinitis–also known as vasomotor rhinitis–which causes allergy symptoms despite negative allergy testing. Nonallergic rhinitis can significantly disturb daily life, including your sleep quality. That’s not all: nonallergic rhinitis can aggravate or cause other problems, like recurring sinus infections, nasal congestion, and chronic cough.
For those who have this condition, overactive nerves are likely to blame. Many patients have tried nasal sprays, antihistamines, and rinses to manage symptoms but have had limited success with these treatments. They have found nothing that offers long-term relief. That may be changing.
The RhinAer® procedure was approved by the FDA in 2020 as a safe and effective office procedure for patients with nonallergic rhinitis.
Your ENT physician will first apply local anesthesia to numb the inside of your nose which makes the treatment virtually painless. Your physician will then insert the small RhinAer® wand into your nostril. Using radiofrequency (RF) energy from its tip, RhinAer® targets and calms down the overactive nerves, helping to reduce the production and flow of unwanted mucus. RhinAer® can also help shrink inflamed soft tissue in your nose to help relieve congestion. A related procedure, VivAer® may also be done to help with nasal blockage. All of this with little to no down time!
Medicare typically covers these procedures. Other insurance plans may cover as well, but the out of pocket cost is very reasonable. If you have had enough of your persistent nasal symptoms, please consider scheduling a consultation visit with OENTA to learn more about treatment options including the new RhinAer®or VivAer® procedures.
You will be glad you did!
